Mandarin became China’s official language in 1956, and since then, the country has been debating whether to force its ethnic minorities to speak the language. The resistance is strong. In Tibet, for example, they speak Tibetan. In the case of Tibet, this illustrates the resistance of the local people to the domination of Chinese occupation.
