Interpretation agriculture translators in Brazil; our company, Intérpretes Profissionais worked with a group of cotton producers from western Bahia on a technical visit to the cotton regions of the United States, an excellent opportunity to learn more about agriculture in this country. The cities visited were Lubbock in Texas, Memphis in Tennessee and Chicago in Illinois.

Lubbock is in western Texas and is the home city of Buddy Holly; during visits to the University of Texas, the translation was done simultaneously, only for a few minutes it had to be consecutive, always using portable equipment.

Memphis is a must for anyone who wants to visit the birthplace of blues, soul and rock ‘n’ roll. In Beale Street, W. C. Handy put the first blues song on paper. Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash are famous. Graceland, Elvis Presley’s home is the second most visited home in the United States, and welcomes visitors from all over the world who are eager to take a peek into the “King’s” life. The city has more sunny days in the year than Miami, and combines tradition and hospitality from the south with modern life. The food is excellent, there are several art galleries and exciting nightlife.

In Lubbock there is an interesting museum about the history of agriculture. In Memphis, right in the center, a great museum on the history of cotton. Again, the simultaneous translation of the monitoring of the technical visits to the cotton fields was done with  portable simultaneous translation equipment that worked very well. There is a surprisingly compact cotton museum that is hidden in the middle of the city center. Entrance costs ten dollars and the visit begins with a 15-minute explanatory video. Then you can just walk around and look at the exhibits and watch additional videos. Many of the exhibits are interactive and it is not very crowded. It is interesting to learn about the evolution of the cotton trade, about plantations and the historical part of slavery.

Ah, a fun fact – the museum building was in a Tom Cruise movie!
